Skills Monitoring

Training and skills development isn't just a one off event - it is a continual process that needs to be kept going once started.

This is where our Skills Monitoring assessments are vital and provide you with direct feedback on where your growth workforce growth areas should be next.

What is Skills Monitoring?

Skills Monitoring is the process of giving a group of experienced operators a small technical assessment. This is an observed assessment and scored against a pre-agreed set of criteria

At the end of each assessment, each participant is given direct 1-2-1 feedback talking through where they did well and areas that should be focused on for improvement. Additionally, this is a time for the participant to ask any technical questions they have about the work they are doing.

How it works

Understanding Your Needs

As with any assessment, we start by understanding what your business finds important and where you are hoping to take your business.

This allows us to ensure that the growth of the individual team member matches the growth of the company.

Customising the Test

From this needs analysis, we then review our standard exercises and marking criteria. If required, we can then tailor these to match exactly what you are after.

We will also work with you to identify which areas and staff would most benefit from going through this assessment.

Conducting the Tests

Once the right staff have been highlighted, we travel to your site set up a fully independent testing environment.

On the test day(s), we collaborate with the department management team to have a minimal impact on day to day production. Tests should only take half a day with a short 1-2-1 feedback session afterwards. While waiting for their feedback session, participants can continue working with only a short disruption to the rest of their working day.

Delivering Results

After testing, each participant will have a direct 1-2-1 session with the assessor. This will cover:

  • Areas of strength
  • Areas of development
  • An open Q&A session about any general technical questions they have

The general scores and verbal feedback can then be shared with the department management team and with any internal L&D team.

We also offer the option to hold participants name and scores in a GDPR compliant system. This allows you the option to compare progress on any future skills monitoring assessments.

Why conduct skills monitoring?

Maintain the Standards You Want
Regular skills monitoring allows you to be clear to yourself and your staff what the standard should be. By identifying any gaps early on could prevent mistakes that effect your customer.

Reduce Natural Deviation
Even highly experienced staff can fall into bad habits or forget key skills over time. Skills monitoring helps individuals to be aware of any issues that they didn’t realize that they were doing.

Increased Employee Engagement
Having measurable goals and standards allows employees to take charge of their own development. Knowing where their development areas are allows them to see and be in charge of their own growth while letting the company know the direct support they need.

By continually conducting skills monitoring, companies are able to gain further insight into their own business’ health as well as empowering the individual employees to take charge of their own growth.
